Cleaning Tips: 3 Common Carpet Stains

Need help on how to get rid of carpet stains? Luckily, we'll share the 3 common carpet stains and some cleaning tips on how to get rid of them.

Below are the 3 common carpet stains:

Coffee

Ughh, is there anything worse than spilling your coffee on the carpet? Not only do you have to deal with the stain, but you have to do it uncaffeinated! Treating the stain will only take a few minutes, so go brew yourself another pot, and by the time it's ready, so will your carpet.

First, use a clean towel to absorb as much of the spill as possible. Blot gently until the area is not sopping wet. Then mix a little squirt of dish soap into a cup filled with warm water. Use a clean sponge to apply the soapy mixture to the carpet. Blot it again with a clean towel to pull even more of the stain out. Next, mix ¼ cup white vinegar with ½ cup warm water. Apply the vinegar mixture to the carpet with the sponge again. Use a clean towel to pull that liquid out of the carpet. Finally, sponge clean water onto the spot, then, you guessed it, blot the spot with a clean towel. Allow the spot to dry before allowing foot traffic, and go enjoy another cup of joe. Urine

Absorb as much as possible with white towels, then blot with a damp, cool cloth. Next, spray or blot with a solution of one part white vinegar to one part water. Finally, apply a solution of 1/2 teaspoon of clear, mild, nonbleach detergent mixed with 32 ounces of water, rinse, and blot dry. If the urine was the result of a dog's accident, you may also want to try a housebreaking aid such as No-Go. Source: ThiSoldHouse

Red Wine

This is the stereotypical carpet spill. Somebody got a little too tipsy and let go of their drink at last night's party. Once this happens, try dabbing the stain with a thick towel. Do not smear the stain back and forth with the towel. You'll just rub it deeper into the carpet. You can also try adding a little bit of salt to the carpet as it dries, which will help absorb the liquid. You can use a small dab of soap or detergent and continue to blot the area. Blot again with a dry towel once the stain is gone. Source: RedBeacon
